2025 SEASON 

COMMEMORATING THE END OF WORLD WAR II IN 1945 AND DUNDEE TOWNSHIP’S PARTICIPATION IN THE WAR EFFORT

Carpentersville, East Dundee and West Dundee had many servicemen and women in the armed forces. People at home experienced food and gasoline rationing, Victory Gardens were planted, scrap metal and newspapers were collected and war bonds were purchased. All area families from Annell to Zierk were touched in some way by the war.

 

THE ANVIL CLUB

The Anvil Club, a local eatery from 1956 until 2023, is featured in one of the new exhibits. It was housed in a former 19th century blacksmith shop in East Dundee. The prior blacksmith shop owners were David Haverkamp followed by Herman Becker.

MAYFLOWER TO MAIN STREET

George Soule came to America in 1620 on the Mayflower and was a signer of the Mayflower Compact. Some of his descendants were residents of Dundee including Charles Eggler. Charles, who during WWII, was a prominent figure in the development of the Atomic Bomb. 

LOCAL BLACKSMITHS

A blacksmith was vital to early settlements. Who were some of ours and what services and products did they supply our residents?
