Historical Annual Meeting and Program “The War to End All Wars”, Sunday 5/7 2pm
The Dundee Township Historical Society will present a tribute to the “Dough Boys” of World War I on Sunday, May 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the museum, 426 Highland in West Dundee.
The presentation, “The War to End All Wars”, is based on the little book, Hardtack and Bullets, written in 1918 by Cpl. Henry J. Hines and Sidney Birdsall.
The book tells of the exploits of Company E 129th Infantry which included men from Dundee, Carpentersville, Algonquin and the surrounding area. These men tramped across France, marched through ankle deep mud, suffered attacks from the land and the sky, survived burns from mustard gas, trudged across the battle fields where their friends fell at the hands of the enemy and kept going until the fighting ended.
Special guest Robert H. Buerger Jr. will display his collection of WWI items and answer any questions visitors may have.
Guests who have information about Company E. and the men who served are welcome to bring pictures and stories to share. If an organization would like to schedule a private presentation we will do our best to accommodate.
The program will be proceeded by a brief business meeting and election of officers.
There is no admission charge, donations graciously accepted.
